KEY SCRIPTURES: Luke 7:36-50 - The Woman with the Alabaster Jar
MAIN IDEA: Those who know they are forgiven, give freely and fully.
- A woman known as a sinner anoints Jesus’ feet with expensive perfume.
- The Pharisee judges her outward reputation, but Jesus reveals her inward devotion.
- Her giving is an act of worship, flowing from deep gratitude for forgiveness.
- The word Jesus uses for forgiveness (aphiēmi) literally means “to release” — she was released from the bondage of her sins.
- Her freedom from sin leads to extravagant and overflowing love.
- Jesus is willing to give even more than this woman. He is ready to pour Himself out as an offering for us because of His great love. We love extravagantly because Christ loved us first.
- This reminds us that the more we grasp grace, the more generous we become with love, time, and resources. This is a key step in living for more.
