WEEK 2: Enthroned In Heaven

DATE: April 19th

THEOLOGICAL CONCEPT: Ascension. Where He is. He is in heaven.

KEY SCRIPTURES: Acts 1:9-11; Ephesians 1:19-23; Hebrews 1:3-4; Psalm 110:1; Hebrews 12:2; Daniel 7:13-14; Mark 16:19

SERMON IDEAS:

1) Acts 1:9–11

The ascension is physical and visible; therefore, Christ’s ascension is not symbolic language. Christ is ascended and seated in heaven.

The cloud imagery in this text reflects divine presence and the prophetic connection of the Son of Man going up toward the Ancient of Days in Daniel 7.

The angels redirect the disciples; the disciples were not to engage in mere speculation, but to be sent on mission. He has ascended, tell everyone.

2) Ephesians 1:19–23

The same power that raised Christ now seats Him in authority. His position is as one that is seated above all.

"Far above all rule and authority", there is no competing power that is equal. In other words, Christ has no rival. His place is in Heaven alone.

"Head over all things for the church", this means that His reign benefits His people as a benevolent King ruling in Heaven.

3) He is seated at the right hand of the Father; therefore, His ascension does not indicate absence, but it is enthronement.

4) esus is not waiting to rule in the future sense; no, He is ruling right now.

5) The extent of Christ’s authority is cosmic, but it is also personal for the church. His ascension changes His status and releases His goodness into our world.

APPLICATION:

- We should trust Christ’s authority in uncertain situations of our life.

- We must live boldly in mission because He reigns over every place you go.

- We are invited to rest in His sovereignty because nothing in your life is outside His control. He is the ascended King.
