KEY SCRIPTURES:James 5:16-18, Acts 4:31
MAIN IDEA: God releases spiritual power to change people and circumstances when His people pray in faith, unity, and obedience.
- Confession is a key part of prevailing in prayer (James 5:13-20)
- Confession restores both spiritual and communal health which causes unity and faith to rise within the body. Christ’s power to serve and to heal is released within the community.
- Elijah’s humanity emphasizes the accessibility we ALL have if we align ourselves with God and pray with great boldness even in seasons of difficulty (1 Kings 17–18)
- Corporate prayer leads to Spirit-empowered boldness not more comfort. God makes us bold not comfortable when we are surrounded by issues (Acts 4:29-31)
- Prayer gives us access to power that fuels mission (Acts 1:8).
- God answers prayer with power to advance His mission on the earth, not to advance our personal prestige or glory (John 14:12-14).
APPLICATION:
- Starting this week, engage in both personal and corporate prayer, but engage with deeper understanding of what is happening through our prayer times.
- As we pray, let us expect personal and communal transformation in boldness, unity, and witness. Our times of prayer may not change everything but it should make us different.
- Pray with faith that God acts through normal humans. Remember that it is ordinary believers like me and you that have access to His power for His will.
