WEEK 3: Enthroned For You
DATE: April 26th
THEOLOGICAL CONCEPT: Intercession. What He is doing. He is interceding for us.
KEY SCRIPTURES: Hebrews 7:23-25; Romans 8:31-34; Hebrews 4:14-16; 1 John 2:1; Isaiah 53:12
SERMON IDEAS:
1) Hebrews 7:23-25
- Earthly priests were temporary; Jesus' priesthood is permanent.
- "He always lives to intercede", this means that Jesus' intercession for us is an ongoing, active ministry.
- "Save to the uttermost"; or save completely, this means that His advocacy for us is complete and final; it is truly for our salvation.
2) Romans 8:31-34
- This legal or courtroom language: accusation, condemnation, justification.
- "Christ Jesus… is interceding for us"; this is in the present tense.
- The basis of assurance is not our performance, but it is His ongoing advocacy.
3) In that way, Christ’s intercession is not passive, but it is a present and active representation before the Father.
4) Jesus functions as both King and Priest. Because He is glorified, ascended, and interceding.
5) Our security is anchored in His consistent intercession, not our consistent activity; therefore, if we believe in Him, we are eternally secured.
APPLICATION:
- Because of Jesus being at the right hand of the Father, we can experience freedom from condemnation and shame. Jesus is speaking on our behalf.
- Since Christ is interceding, we can have great confidence in approaching God in prayer.
- Since Jesus is advocating for you even when you fail, we have access to endurance in weakness, we have spiritual resilience.
