WEEK 3: Power of the Spirit
DATE: May 17th
MAIN IDEA: The harvest is empowered by the Spirit. The Spirit enables what human effort cannot accomplish and gathers what God has promised.
KEY SCRIPTURES: Acts 2:1-13, 41; Joel 2:28-32
SERMON IDEAS:
1) Timing, God moves at the right moment
- Acts 2:1, "When the day of Pentecost had fully come…"
- This is not random timing. This is the harvest festival.
- God pours out His Spirit at the moment of harvest.
- What was anticipated in Leviticus is now fulfilled in Acts.
- God is intentional in His timing.
- The Father planned it, Jesus revealed it, and now the Spirit empowers the harvest to happen at that the right time
2) Power, God fills His people
- Acts 2:2–4, the sound of wind and fire fill the house
- This is not just an emotional experience. This is empowerment.
- The same God who formed a people at Sinai is now filling a people with His Spirit.
- At Sinai, the law was written on stone. At Pentecost, the Spirit writes on hearts.
3) Gathering, God draws the nations
- Acts 2:5–11, every nation hears in their own language
- This is a reversal of Babel.
- In Genesis 11, language divided people. In Acts 2, language gathers people.
- Acts 2:41, 3,000 saved, this is the first fruits of a global harvest.
- The harvest is no longer local. It is global.
ADDITIONAL CROSS REFERENCE:
- Joel 2:28–32, Spirit poured out on all flesh
- Genesis 11:1–9, Tower of Babel
- Ezekiel 37:9–10, breath brings life
- Luke 24:49, clothed with power
APPLICATION:
- Depend on the Spirit, not just strategy. We cannot manufacture a spiritual harvest.
- Expect God to move. The Spirit is active now, not just in the past.
- Embrace the nations. The harvest includes all people, all cultures, all backgrounds.
- Seek empowerment. Ask God for boldness, sensitivity, and a Spirit-led life.
